The wing vein (left) and raw wing (right) of a swallowtail butterfly. The hollow wing veins allow the body fluid to pass through and spread the wings when it emerges. From the viewpoint of mechanics, they have a high rigidity and creates effective chamber during flight. Wing venation is species-spacific.
